Rope halters help teach a horse to yield to pressure. Where a horse can pull against a nylon webbing halter quite comfortably, the rope halters are much thinner and thus apply more pressure when the horse pulls. The rope halters also sit lighter on the face when no pressure is being added. Strategically placed knots located on sensitive portions of the horse's face add considerable discomfort when a horse pulls against it and release pressure the moment the horse stops pulling against the rope halter. We can custom tie halters to your measurements at no extra cost. Our rope halters are made of the finest quality marine grade double braid rope. Rope halters made from our double braid will not rot or degrade in the sun.

Rope Halters knotted cowboy halter, marine ropeTying instructions

Rope halters are effective in establishing a horse’s respect for your guidance and control rather than inadvertantly training your horse that it CAN pull against a nylon web or leather halter.

We use marine double braid in our halters for light weight and high strength: if a horse pulls against one of our halters, it will feel distinctly uncomfortable when pulling against the round knots, yet find instant pressure relief on yielding to the light weight of our rope halters.

Correct placement and tying of the knots in these halters is very important.  Many rope halters offered for sale are left loose "so they can be adjusted", but a large part of the time involved in tying a halter that doesn't have twists in it is in snugging up the knots and removing the twists as they are tied.  This ensures that the halter rests lightly on a horse's face and that the knots don't apply pressure while at rest.

Rope halter construction is a single continuous length of marine grade rope using a combination of knots that are both ornamental and functional. The rope ends are spliced and melted together for durability and easy tying. There are no metal parts in our rope halters, so there is no hardware to break and develop sharp edges that could injure your horse.

For people using Clinton Anderson training methods, halters can be requested with four knots in the top of the nose band at no extra charge.
